The Fielder Studio Of Music

At Walled Lake Central High School

Welcome to The Fielder Studio of Music at WLCHS!

My name is Jessica Fielder and I am one of the private voice teachers at WLCHS.  Your child has expressed an interest in studying privately with me at WLCHS during this school year and I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with him/her to develop the natural talent that your child already possesses.   I will be at the high school each day to work individually with students either during their choral class.  I posted a sign-up sheet in the choir room this week and have put a tentative schedule together based on the students who have asked to participate in my studio.

Private lessons in my studio are offered at the high school once a week from October– May.  For those students who wish to continue their studies over the summer, I offer lessons from June – August in my home studio located in Farmington Hills.  Lessons are offered once a week for 25 minutes each based on the school schedule.  There will be no lessons over the school breaks.  (I will also take a break for 1 week in February when my own children have a winter break. )  I am available for parent questions and concerns anytime by email or phone.  Leave me a message and I will get back to you ASAP.

Over the course of the school year your child will learn proper posture, breathing techniques, vocal placement , foreign language pronunciation and diction as well as a plethora of vocal repertoire.  Each marking period students are required to perform a jury for their peers, Mrs. Rashid and I.  Each jury will focus on a different style of music ranging from folk songs, classical art songs, foreign language art songs or arias to musical theatre and pop.  Each area will be studied thoroughly not only from a vocal perspective but also with performance in mind.  It is my goal that each of my students finish the year with a better understanding and execution of the various musical styles covered in their lessons.

Your child will also be expected to perform at the district level of Solo and Ensemble and hopefully will score high enough to move on to the state level.   There will also be performance and competition opportunities in my studio through the various music organizations that I belong to and in my studio recitals.  Many of my past students have gone on to study music at the college level.   So if your child has aspirations to follow through with music after high school I welcome your input and invite you and your child to use me as a resource to make that a reality.

Because of the block scheduling at the school lessons are not always on the same day each week or even at the same time.  I ask that the students be patient and also be prepared for a lesson sometimes on the fly.  If a scheduled student is absent I will ask another student to take that lesson for the day so that lessons never stop throughout the week.  It is the only way to stay on track and to fit everyone in each week.  If a student is absent on their scheduled lesson day they must contact me by phone before their lesson time in order to receive a make-up lesson.  The make-up lesson will be conducted at my convenience.  Depending on my schedule there is a possibility that a make-up lesson may not take place during the same week or even the same month. (In my home studio I do not do make-up lessons.  If a student misses a lesson for any reason they forfeit that lesson.)  If I am absent for any reason I will contact Mrs. Rashid to let her know that will not be at school that day.  I will work with the students individually to make those lessons up.  Again, I may not be able to reschedule in the same week or even the same month.  But at my earliest convenience I will make up any lessons that I must cancel.  I will do my best to stay on task and schedule but I need the student’s help to make this happen.  I am at the school every day in order to accommodate my student’s needs.  They only need to see me to schedule a lesson.

Excessive missed lessons will not be tolerated.  If a student is not able to keep up with their repertoire due to absences they will be asked to leave the studio.  For a student to progress vocally it is imperative that they attend every lesson available.

Lessons will begin on Monday, October 5, 2009

The lesson fee is $67.00 per month. The $67 per month is based on a calendar school year fee of $536.50 , for 27 lessons (25 minutes each)  and 2 evening  juries, broken down into 8 payments. For those students who were in my studio last year, the difference in the fee is due to a later start and 2 unscheduled lessons off during the year. ( The 2 unscheduled lessons off  are to accommodate schedule changes made at the school level  that I do not have control over. Assemblies, last minute schedule changes, special school programs, field trips, etc. )The first payment is due on or before Thursday October1st.    All payments thereafter will be due on the first DAY of each month. (Nov. 1st, Dec 1st, Jan 1st, Feb 1st, March 1st, April 1st, May 1st)  I prefer that you mail this payment to my home studio address.  That way students are not carrying cash or checks with them at school and I receive the payments in a timely manner. I will also have Paypal available very soon through my studio website so that payments can be made by credit or debit cards online.  If payment is not received by the 5th day of the month there will be a $10.00 late fee added on to the payment and your child will not receive a lesson until the lessons are prepaid for that month.  Beginning with the November payment I will send out a bill each month that will also serve as a receipt for all previous payments.

For those students who were in my studio last year, the difference in the fee is due to a later start and 2 unscheduled lessons off during the year. The 2 unscheduled lessons off are to accommodate schedule changes made at the school level that I do not have control over. (assemblies, special school programs, field trips, etc.)

This fee includes private vocal lessons of 25 minutes in length with piano accompaniment, recordings of individual vocal parts and accompaniments as well as professional recordings for students to listen to and learn from, studio administrative time and an open door time at the school.  The lesson fee also enables me to pay membership fees to various music organizations in order for my students to participate in various music festivals and competitions.  Students from the high school program will also be invited to perform in my private studio recitals.

If this all sounds feasible and you and your child are still interested please return the bottom of this form signed and dated by both the parent and the student, along with a check made payable to Jessica Fielder for $67.00,  on or before Thursday October 1, 2009.    If you decide to begin lessons at a later date this does not reduce your payment amount.  So please take advantage of every lesson opportunity available.

Please mail your registration form and October payment ASAP to the address below in order to reserve your child’s lesson time in the studio.  If payment is not made by Thursday October 1st the schedule slot will be forfeited to another student.
